We understand that moving
to Spain is a massive ordeal so here you'll find a printable page of some
essential issues that you should consider before moving over here. The
Spanish way of life is still considerably more relaxed than in other
European countries even though the pace has quickened over the last 30
years. Most Companies now offer a very high level of service. Spanish "red
tape" is still one thing to keep in mind and as long as you stay on top of
the issue it normally runs smoothly. Some issues to consider when moving
over are the following;
-
Residency. This should be done as soon as you've
decided as it can take a few months. There are ways of speeding up the
process if you are buying a house.
-
Removals. There are plenty of removal companies
operating in Spain. We currently use the services of 2 or 3 removal firms
as they offer competitive rates for our clients. If you would like some
recommendations don't hesitate in asking us.
-
Schools.
There are
several excellent schools around Valencia that provide a high level of
education in English. The English schools are highly sought after and
notoriously difficult to get Students into. We have in the past helped a
number of families in this matter so let us know if you have any problems
and we'll try to help. On the other hand, if your child goes to a Spanish
school, it gives him/her an opportunity to learn Spanish much faster. As
the Spanish state school system is of a very high standard, that option is
also worth considering. Click on the links below for further information
on English schools in the area and to arrange appointments.
-
Renovation work. Don't forget to budget any kind of
renovation to do on the house. We normally advise our clients to get local
Spanish builders as not only will they know about local building practices
but it will also be easier for you to let them to buy the materials as
most merchants don't speak English. If you are not going to be able to
oversee the project yourself, let us know and we'll be able to help you
out, as not only do we know many of the local builders here but we can all
speak fluent Spanish and can even manage the project on your behalf. In
the past we have been involved with anything from a new boiler right
through to total and complete renovation project. We provide you with
weekly updates so you can see exactly what is going on and we'll always be
on the other end of the phone.
-
Bank
accounts. Opening a bank account here is straight forward
and simple. All you need is your passport and if you have a NIE number or
residence card even better. If you are unsure, contact us and we´ll put
you in touch with English speaking banks.
-
Vehicles. If you are thinking about driving while over here
and renting a car will prove to be too costly, it often comes out easier
to buy a car in Spain and registering it here. Importing a vehicle from
abroad is costly and you only have a certain period of time in which to
register it. The Police here can conduct random checks and will fine you
if your papers are not in order.
-
Utilities. When you are moving into your new property, one
of the first issues to take care of will be all your utility bills. We
help you by doing all this for you, but if you fancied a try yourself it
is fairly easy. Here is some helpful information.
