Programme in Valencia
----------------------
33rd Americas Cup
2009
The 33rd
Americas Cup
-
Will Team Alinghi be able to defend
the Americas Cup for a third
time?.....when Team Alinghi won with
5 : 2 match races against Emirates
Team New Zealand.
One thing is
sure, the 33rd
edition of the
Americas Cup
will be at least
as exiting as
the 32nd:
For example,
the appeal of
Valencia has
grown
significantly
this year for
sports-loving
tourists, with
the hosting of
the
Americas Cup by
the city being
the catalyst for
the building of
a major new
arena, along
with other
waterfront
developments. In
addition to
this, the city
has been awarded
the European
Formula One
grand prix from
2008 to 2014,
with a
Monaco-style
street circuit.
Valencia could
thus become
Spain's answer
to Monte Carlo.
33rd America's Cup
2008 will be held
in Valencia Spain ?
BMW Oracle Racing said his syndicate feels
it has the right to hold the regatta in
October 2008
Alinghi is pushing for July 2009.
Alinghi gets to chose the venue, which can
be anywhere in the northern hemisphere.
Valencia, Spain, site of last year's
America's Cup, is an option, or it could be
in another European port.
When BMW Oracle Racing submitted its
challenge in July, shortly after Alinghi
defeated Team New Zealand in the 32nd
America's Cup, it gave the dimensions for a
boat that will be 90 feet on the waterline
and 90 feet wide.
"The big picture
is, this could be the most exciting America's Cup match
in modern times, if not ever, in these maxi multihulls,"
The Deed of Gift is a document from 1887
that helps govern the America's Cup.
While the United States
dominated the first 132 years of the America's Cup, a
U.S. boat hasn't won it since 1992. American boats have
failed to reach the finals of the last three America's
Cup regattas.

34th America's Cup:
Teams Ready to Compete :
This list will grow as more
teams log their official 'Notice
of Entry' for the 34th America's
Cup.
- The new venue
for the
34th Americas Cup is not
yet defined. Michel Bonnefous,
managing director of AC
Management (ACM) is in
negotiations with the Valencia
governement. It seems that the
commercial harbour that needs
more space might conflict with
the plans of ACM and the Port of
America's Cup (the official name
of the beautiful harbour
installations that were built
specifically for the 32nd
Armeicas Cup).
If the races take place in
Valencia they could start as
early as 2009, if an other spot
needs to be defined, the 34th
America Cup racing will only
start in 2011.
-

- 300 million people live within 2 hours flying time of Valencia
- Spectators will be able to view racing from the shores of Valencia
- Races set to finish in 90 minutes

2011 America's Cup to be held in Spain
Société Nautique de Genève the current Trustee of the America’s
Cup,announced that Valencia, Spain will be the host city for the 34th America’s Cup
in 2011.

Americas' Cup 2011 in Valencia
Valencia was in
front of three other European candidates:
- Lisbon, Portugal
- Marseille, France
- Naples, Italy.
"The combination of all the other criteria and the sailing conditions are
the reason we chose Valencia," said Michel Bonnefous, the chief executive
officer of AC Management, the company set up by Alinghi to organize the
defence of the cup after 2007 win.
This is the second time since the beginning of the cup in 1851 that the
world's oldest cup will be competed for in Europe.
Other seconds for this cup will be the second time to be held outside of the
host club's country and the second time in a non-English speaking country.
Louis Vuitton, has ended
its 25 year association with the America's Cup. Louis Vuitton
said it will “observe the future evolution of the competition with
interest.” and does not rule out the possibility of organising its own
competition, under the Louis Vuitton Cup banner.......

British 'TeamOrigin' Challenges
for the 34th America's Cup
TeamOrigin with the Royal Thames
Yacht Club declared as their home yacht club, marks
the return to the America's Cup for the United
Kingdom. The team is under the management and
leadership of Sir Keith Mills.
The callenge of this team was announced on the 24th
of July 2007 by ACM, who formally accepted the callenge.
In a press release, Sir Keith Mills commented from
London, "TeamOrigin and the RTYC have together
challenged for the America's Cup believing that a
Host City, a full regatta programme for the coming
seasons and a class rule for the new boat to be used
for the 33rd America's Cup Match will shortly be
announced. TeamOrigin further believes that several
other teams will challenge in the coming weeks and
months following these announcements."
Mike Sanderson is the Team Director for TeamOrigin.
Mike Sanderson was named ISAF World Sailor of the
Year for 2006 and is the winning skipper of the
2005-06 Volvo Ocean Race. He believes that it's a
good time to start a campaign, as new boats will be
defined: "We believe it will be easier for a new
team to become competitive at the America's Cup with
the introduction of a new class of boat and should
deliver faster sailing and a more exciting spectacle."
